SHALL WE BEGIN ALREADY BECAUSE I AM SUPER EXCITED!!!💃

I hope you are too 😁😁😁….. SOOO!! before we get to the trendy part it is pertinent that we begin first with the history so as for us to embrace the importance of the Art called Adire. Now let’s Begin………….LONG TIME AGO IN THE YORUBA LAND (how many of us remember Samurai Jack, I got this concept from that cartoon best cartoon EVERRR!!😜 )OK SCRATCH THAT *HAHAHA* pardon me just wanted to start with a dramatic entry because the ART OF ADIRE is pretty ancient.

I’m pretty serious now. The Yoruba culture has made significant contributions to the world between the 12^th and 21^th century. Of all the artistic traditions of the Yoruba culture, the textile art still remains the most decorative. The Yorubas are traditionally deeply religious people, their thinking is greatly influenced by their history, legends, myths, proverbs, folklore and deep observations of their natural environment and from all of which most of the traditional decorative symbols have been drawn.

The origin of Adire emanated from Indigo dyeing and the world of the Yoruba women.  Adire isn’t only about the Yoruba language but also about the Art itself. Adire is ART!!. Adire is a name coined from two Yoruba words- ADI meaning Tie and RE meaning Dye. It is the creativity and the designs in Adire that makes it significant both as a process and an object of communication in the Yoruba world and the global community. The patterns in Adire are derived from the decorative part of the people’s day-to-day lives.

Inspiration for certain patterns were drawn from certain birds such as AGBE, ALUKO, ODIDERE, AKUKO, LEKELEKE and AGBUFON. These six birds were at the period of their creation at the primordial time, divinely inspired and permitted to respectively use Indigo, Cam-wood, Palm-oil, Chalk and variegated Color pigments………
